Hello friends!

My name is Dau Dayal Sharma, a resident of Bharatpur, Rajasthan.

I am a wildlife photographer and a birding coach.  Thanks to the presence of Bharatpur bird sanctuary, upgraded as Kevladev National Park and Reserve Forest in my town, I was drawn towards this field from my school days and my passion has not diminished even now.

What can I offer to you?

I frequently offer coaching to budding photographers who wish to pursue wildlife photography as a passion or profession. Bird photography is a highly specialised field in which knowing your subjects is as important as knowing the art and craft of photography.

Basics of Wildlife Photography

Even before you move out of your home with a camera hanging on your shoulder, you have to know:

• which birds or animals you are likely to find at a certain time of a day and where to look for them.
• In order to achieve any amount of success, you need to know behaviour patterns of various species of birds and animals.
• You need to know what garments to wear so that you would be “invisible” to the wild life, esp., birds birds.
• Most of the birds distrust human beings, esp. strangers and any attempt to go near them terrifies them. We need to win their trust by patiently watching them from a distance while standing or sitting still for several days before they start accepting your presence as benign.
• You cannot wear any kind of perfume or deodorant because wild animals and birds will sense your presence from miles away. If you are with a friend or your coach, you must learn to talk in whisper. Using sign language would be far better.
• Last, but not the least, you start identifying various species of birds and their habits. How do they prey, where do they make their nest if at all they do, their mating preferences, places they choose for breeding, how do they behave when faced with a danger? and so on.

Wildlife photography is highly captivating hobby and is really habit forming. Encounters with different species of birds and animals are rewarding, gratifying and thrilling.

So far, I have not discussed the art and craft of taking great pictures of birds and animals. Buying expensive camera, lenses and tripods alone won’t make you successful wildlife photographer. After all, buying an Oxford dictionary alone doesn’t make us great writers.
