Bofore you plan a visit to the National Park (full name Keoladeo National Park, traditionally known as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary) in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, here are a few things you should know.

Location of Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary

Bharatpur – home to the Keoladev National Park, is an Indian city in eastern Rajasthan. Keoladeo National Park is a major bird sanctuary with hundreds of species.

Bharatpur is well connected through rail and road network. Bharatpur Junction railway station (station code: BTE) is on Mathura–Kota section of the New Delhi–Mumbai main line of Indian Railways. Apart from the Delhi – Mumbai main line, the Agra–Bandikui–Jaipur line also passes through Bharatpur Junction. It is on West Central Railway zone (WCR) and has the status of Grade A station. 138 trains have got a halt at Bharatpur. 3 trains originate from / terminate at Bharatpur.

Bharatpur Junction connects to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Agra, Jaipur. It has got waiting rooms, refreshment rooms, a book stall and has five platforms which are electrified.

Keoladeo National Park is located 5 km approx. from Bharatpur Railway Station.

Nearest airport

Agra is the nearest airport from Bharatpur (some 50 kms away from Bharatpur). The second best choice is IGI International Airport in Delhi. Jaipur also is a viable option.

When is the right time to visit Bharatpur and the National Park?

The best time to visit Bharatpur and the Keoladeo National Park starts from October till end of February. Bharatpur may become quite hot during summers and humid during monsoon. Winters offer quite pleasant weather with cool nights and bearable sun during the day time.

The park remains open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. everyday.

How much time is enough to see Bharatpur and the National Park?

It really depends on your expectations from Bharatpur and the Park. Keeping aside one day exclusively for the National Park, one or two days should be enough to see other attractions of Bharatpur viz. Lohagarh fort, Museum, palaces and temples.
